Half-Life: Alyx is officially coming March 2020
Thirteen years after the most infamous cliffhanger in video game history, Half-Life is finally coming back in March 2020 — as a VR game called Half-Life: Alyx.

Valve tells us it’s a VR-exclusive. And it’s a prequel of sorts, set between Half-Life and Half-Life 2, in the days when Alyx Vance and her father Eli are building the resistance to the Combine’s alien occupation of Earth. You’ll play Alyx, and you’ll be wielding a way to manipulate gravity once more: the “Gravity Gloves,” which we can see Alyx using to pick up a pistol from a distance and interact with puzzles in the game’s first trailer — which you’ll find a little ways below.

Here’s Valve’s description of the kind of gameplay you should expect:

Lean to aim around a broken wall and under a Barnacle to make an impossible shot. Rummage through shelves to find a healing syringe and some shotgun shells. Manipulate tools to hack alien interfaces. Toss a bottle through a window to distract an enemy. Rip a Headcrab off your face and throw it at a Combine soldier.

But if all these things make you think it’s just going to be another glorified tech demo for VR, you might want to read Valve programmer David Speyrer’s answers to a few questions we asked:

1) “It’s not a side story, nor an episodic one — it’s the next part of the Half-Life story, in a game around the same length as Half-Life 2.”

2) “While it does take place before the events of Half-Life 2, we actually recommend that you play through Half-Life 2: Episode 2 before you play Half-Life: Alyx, for reasons that will become clear as you progress.”

3) “Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how people react to Half-Life: Alyx once it’s out, but we’d love to continue pushing forward.”

Not a tech demo. Not necessarily just a prequel. And even if not in March, it sounds like there’s a chance us Half-Life fans will finally get some closure.

Amazon plans to announce long-rumored game streaming service in 2020

Amazon reportedly has plans to announce a Stadia and xCloud-like game streaming service in 2020, building on rumors that circulated following new job postings and comments from sources in the know earlier this year.

According to a recent cloud gaming rundown by Cnet, two sources familiar with Amazon’s innerworkings say that current plans see the service being officially announced next year, an admittedly slight update from earlier rumors that said the service was planned to launch in 2020.

Cnet’s sources also say that Amazon has been recruiting staff from companies like Microsoft to ready the service. It also points out that a job posting about the vague “new initiative” notes the streaming service will work with Twitch and other Amazon-owned services in some way.

Similar rumors circulated in January of this year, though cloud gaming platforms have become more tangible in the months since those first whispers through the recent launch of Google Stadia and preview period for Xbox’s Project xCloud. Though as that side of the game industry continues to expand, and especially in the wake of Stadia’s somewhat turbulent launch, it’s becoming clear that any new game streaming services will need a strong hook to win over audiences already content with physical consoles or other cloud-based offerings.

State of Decay 2 is coming to Steam next year

State of Decay 2 was released in May 2018, and as a zombie survival game it was quite good, but as a Microsoft Store exclusive, well, I'll let you draw your own conclusions. That won't be an issue for too much longer, though, as it's now listed on Steam and scheduled to go live early next year.

The Steam page is light on details at the moment but indicates that cloud saves, achievements, and cross-platform multiplayer will all be supported. Developer Undead Labs confirmed in the announcement at stateofdecay.com that the Steam version will support Xbox Live crossplay, meaning that the Steam, Windows Store, and Xbox One versions will all play together.

Somewhat oddly, the Steam page lists the State of Decay 2 launch date as April 1, 2022, but that has to be either a mistake or a weird joke that's gone over my head, because the actual announcement sets it for early 2020. More information about the Steam release will be revealed in a livestream beginning at 3 pm PT/6 pm ET on November 25, on Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer.

Warframe players get to work building space battleships

Warframe players can start work on their flyable, fightable spaceships with the game’s Rising Tide update, available now on PC. They just can’t start, like, flying them until Warframe’s Empyrean expansion arrives, which is looking like early next year.
First, players must construct a Dry Dock to build the mighty Railjack, the vessel revealed back at TennoCon 2018. Working alone or co-operatively, they’ll go through two new missions to acquire the blueprints and six Railjack components needed to build the thing. Upon completion, players will find that they need additional components to start the engines and fly it; those will be provided later — i.e. when Empyrean launches.

The update also introduces four new resources to help with ship construction, and players may start collecting them now. Once Empyrean launches, players may use these resources to fit their Railjack with different weapons and upgrades.

There are more, non-Railjack related additions, changes and fixes in title update 26.1. The Orbiter — the main hub that players may customize — is getting a visual overhaul for starters. Digital Extremes says this might throw off some decorations players hung in the earlier version, but players may reposition them individually, or with a new reset option coming in the update. The visual remake for the Orbiter adds new viewing ports and different lighting:
