Im compiling a list of tips to help people new and experienced in COD4
1) All your COD4 stats(unlocks, ranks) are stored on your hard drive. So if you uninstall COD4 or reformat your computer you will lose stats. To save your stats go to C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles and save the folder that you use for playing. The file inside that folder called mpdata is the file that has all the stats in it so don't lose it. It also has your CD key inside it so don't go thinking you can give it to a friend so he has all your unlocks, it won't work.
2) In COD4 you can use the console to set things like your name, etc. But you can also use it for binds. Binds are actions attached to a key press. An example of a bind is: Jump is binded to the space bar. You can use binds to be able to say things quickly. Like: "Join fever by filling out an app at our site!" could be binded to a key by typing into the console /bind <key> say "join fever..."
3) You can also use colours in your binds. There are 10 colours that you can use. They are:
^1 - RED
^2 - GREEN
^3 - YELLOW
^4 - BLUE
^5 - CYAN
^6 - PINK
^7 - WHITE
^8 - DEFAULT MAP COLOR
^9 - GREY OR DEFAULT MAP COLOR
^0 - BLACK
You use them by typing the caret and the number just before your text. So "^1Join Fever!" would produce Join Fever! ingame.
4) It isn't much of a problem yet but I think it will be when people start producing a lot of mods for the game. It will be quite common for people to lose all their settings when going from one server to another. To counter this you set all your settings to whatever you find best. Then open the console and type /writeconfig somename.cfg. That will write all your current settings into a configuration file in the players folder in your COD4 folder. Then when you go into a server and all of your settings are reset just type /exec somename and it will execute the cfg file you made earlier and put all your settings back to how you want them
5) Walking around a map crouched makes very little noise. It would be like you had the dead silence perk on. This is useful is small maps with very few players as it gives you the upper hand. You can hear them coming but they cannot hear you until you jump out weapon in hand. (credits go to bluehawk for this one)
If anyone else has some tips please post and I will include them.
