Here is a basic step by step guide that will help you kill most viruses.

Now today, the most common viruses will hijack your internet browser, so that when you search for solutions on how to get the virus, it redirects you to advertising. They also learned the names of most anti virus programs, so that when you try to run them, it blocks them.

Make sure that you do steps 1 and 2 on a different computer that is not infected!

So here is what I suggest:

1. Download a FRESH COPY of Malwarebyte's Anti Malware.

* When I say a fresh copy, I mean, dont use an installer that you already have. Go to http://download.cnet.com/windows/ and search for Malwarebyte's Anti Malware.
* Save the installer to your desktop, make sure you DO NOT run the installer. only save it to your desktop.
* This way your always downloading the installer with the most up to date virus definitions. Another thing viruses will do is block your anti virus from updating. This is why it is a good idea to download a fresh installer with the latest definitions.

2. Once you have the installer on your desktop (usually "mbam-setup.exe) you are going to rename it to something totally random. (we will use ladida.exe as an example, but make sure it is something really random)

* To rename it, simply right click on it, and select "rename"

3. Once you have renamed it, put it on a USB drive, and transfer it over to the infected computer, and save it to it's desktop.

4. run the installer.

* While it is installing the program, it is going to ask if you want to run it when it's done, and if you want to update the program when it is done. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN. In other words, you dont want your computer to run the program once the installer finishes, because the virus will block it. You also dont want it to update because again, the virus will block it.
* it will ask you if you want to create a shortcut on your desktop. SELECT NO!!!!

5. Once the program is finished installing:

* Open "my computer"
* select your main hard drive (usually Local Disk C )
* select "program files"
* Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* Look for "mbabm.exe"
* rename "mbabm.exe" to the same random word you used earlier. (we used ladida.exe)
* create a shortcut on your desktop (right click on the renamed file and select "send to desktop (create shortcut)"

6. Now go back to your desktop and run the shortcut you just created.

7. Do a quick scan (should take about 10-15 minutes)

* after the scan is complete, select "show results"
* delete all the malware it found
* it might tell you it will need to reboot your PC, if it does, let it do so, if it doesnt, reboot your PC on your own.

8. Once your PC is back up, do a full scan of your hardrive. (will take 20-60 minutes)

* after the scan is complete, select "show results"
* delete all the malware it found
* it might tell you it will need to reboot your PC, if it does, let it do so,if it doesn't, reboot your PC on your own.
